Thanks guys. Christian, it's actually a very simple technique, let me know if you're interested in a short walkthrough.

OK, here is how I did it. If you search on youtube, there is a lot of different techniques for wood grain.

1) Paint the part in suitable 'woody' color, just keep in mind that the final result will be darker.
2) Apply one, but preferably two coats of ACRYLIC gloss varnish.
3) Now comes the fun part. You'll need ENAMEL wash of the color your wood grain is to be. Either make it yourself or get some premade. For this model I used MIG🤔 'Dark Brown Wash for green vechicles. With a thin brush paint irregular wavy lines - that's your wood grain. Once you're finished, leave for at least couple of hours to dry.
4) Get a soft flat brush and moisten it in white spirit or enamel thinner. The brush is NOT to be wet, but just moist to touch. Work the wood grain streaks with it to soften the appearance and blend them into the base color. Once you're done, leave to dry for another couple of hours or a day.
5) Apply ACRYLIC matte varnish to your taste. At least one coat is needed to protect the enamel grain.

I think that for the grain streak oils paints can be used as well as enamels, but the drying time of oils is a day or two at minimum and who has the patience to wait that long. 🙂

Album info

1/72 short run kit from Azur. A bit of a challenge for an intermidiate modeller like me, but it turned out OK in the end.
