GlennYes Chopper! I can tell you it sucks! (but in a good way!) And it is quite. I was gonna use smaller computer type fans but i decided i'd make the "Home Improvement" Binford 6100 model Arrrh!!! MORE POWER!!! 🙂

GlennIt's a 90 litre tub, about 600mm across 400mm deep 400mm high. I chose it because it was big enough to put the light in and it had a flat bottom for the fan, I nearly chose a larger one than this! I will use something like an air conditioner filter to catch the paint particles. I have several pieces of thin coarse black foam i'll try out. I'll add an update in a few days and the "Binford Tools" logo.
Igor ZdorovyakBuilt a similar unit. Filter material used is designed for the kitchen hood. It is necessary to check how the material of the body will react to solvents and paints.
GlennThanks Izek, I may cover the inside of the tub with paper just so I can keep it looking clean. I try not to waste much paint when spraying so hope I don't get too much paint flying around. I will use a small strip of lunch wrap over the light too so I can just peel it off to keep it clean!
GlennThanks Holger, I couldn't resist adding those, I'm a lot like Tim the toolman Taylor. I'm always screwing with things trying to get MORE POWER out of them. (but unlike Tim my stuff works!) Urrrrrrrrrrrrh!!!!!!!!!
Kerry COXYou have the KISS principle well in hand here Glen, but what would worry me is the recycled fumes. Have you added any sort of exhaust ducting since these pics were taken ? I found that with my spray booth, every speck of dust would get drawn to the booth when I had the fan running, so now I wait until the cool of the evening to do any spray work now. Yeah, Tim would be so proud of you mate. Oh Oh Oh 🙂

Kerry COXThere are 'filter papers' to remove all the suspended paint particals, but the fumes are an other question, but how creative are you mate............Well done 🙂
Alan RushNice Glenn. 👍 I was given a compressor for Christmas and had a Paasche H airbrush so now I need to do something like this to keep my lungs paint free. I use acrylics so I think my main worry would be the particles. In theory I could use it inside with acrylics could I, or still exhaust outside?
Kerry COXAcrylics are fine indoors for fumes but being a plastic particle based paint, I would rather filter out particles.

GlennThanks Guys! I find it works pretty well. I just sit it on a table out in the garage so the fumes are outside the house and plug it in the mains power. The light really helps a lot too 🙂

After seeing someone else make one i got around to making a spray painting booth to contain the paint and fumes!
Used a 90 litre storage tub with the bottom cut out to install a 200mm kitchen exhaust fan. Used a dremel to do this as the plastic on these tubs is a little brittle and can crack easy.
Also installed a compact 13W fluoro swivel head light in the top that I can adjust the angle of to give great lighting while painting.
Only took a couple of hours and the fan and light were pre wired with wall plugs so anyone can do this without much trouble.
I will place a filter over the fan to stop all the paint from collecting on the fan.
Total cost was about $60 (Tub $16, Fan $20, Light $24)
I also brought two glass lazy susan turntables one 25cm and one 35cm these have a ball bearing hub and move very smoothly to rotate items being worked on they were $10 and $15 each.
So next weekend i'll blast some paint on the RAAF F-35 I've started to build! 🙂
