Could you please add a Category called "Ships>>Military Auxiliary Vessels", to cater for all the naval support ships?

I agree but I think it should be Naval not Military? and the term Auxiliary albeit corect also has other meanings in regards to naval ships beyond support vessels and it could become a dumping ground. Naval support vessels may work better?

I was going to put a suggestion to Tim about the current Naval categories but I havent got it totally worked out yet I will have in about a months time.

This is what I am currently using as a basis for a future Data Suggestion, as it is, its way too vast for Scalemates categories and would need refinement - I will probably suggest some combined categories - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warship

I agree about "auxiliary" just becoming a generic dumping ground.

By the way when I say refinement I mean "a lot" of refinement ! 🙂

Well, today categories such as "Motorships" are used as even more generic dumping grounds. Introducing a more detailed set of categories is fine, but something should be done about Ships. I've entered quite a few ships lately and several of them have had to be crowbarred in.

Another thing to consider - having categories with limited topics and and kits is usually no go - I have tried in the past with other areas of Scalemates and got knocked back. Seem to remember Hand Grenades and got asked about the # of topics and kits and when I counted them you could see how irrelevant they were in the greater scheme of things.

The whole area of Topics seem to have grown quite haphazardly over the years, no doubt influenced by different people with different views. Some are very general, with hundreds if not thousands of items in them, while others are incredibly specific with just one or two items. But to review and revamp the whole Topic catalogue would of course be a gargantuan task, so I guess a bit of modest tweaking is all that's realistic.

It all comes back again to personal interpretation, short of having a massive committee to oversee every upload, there is a limit to what can be done.

We regularly split large blocks of topics. Eg. everything related to Star Wars was once a single topic. Now there are 200+ topics = best choice we ever made

SCM Search: star wars

Every generic missile/bomb was once in a single topic = "ordnance"

If there is a clear pattern (and it does not generate confusion) splitting up topics makes sense. But don't start doing it manually. I have code to find/detect and bulk move items in bulk. And before doing, propose via Data Suggestions
