Leif Hellström@SCM Data suggestions
Another search oddity, and I've come across similar things a couple of times before.
This items obviously exists, but it does not show up when you make a search for the Number, the Title or the Topic. Nor does it show if you list all the products under the brand, Woodland Scenics. It is a real ghost.

It's in Railwaymates:

I didn't know that even existed! So they share a common data base, somehow?
What decided whether an item goes in Scalemates or Railwaymates? Logically, anything to do with railways - such as railway stations - ought to go in the latter, one would think.

But hang on: when you press the link I gave
Trackside Junk (Woodland Scenics D202, 1:87)
it says Scalemates in the header! I'm thoroughly confounded now!

It's mainly down to the scale, 1/35 railway buildings don't go in Railwaymates, 1/87 or 1/76 do. Just examples, some items can go in multiple.

every product can be seen on every site when you know the link

But normally the sites should not show/hand out links for links not relevant for the site you are on.

But maybe the "double" warning does not.

Let me make that more clear

The bulk of the stuff I've added in Scalemates so far has been 1:76 scale, many of them diecasts as well. So what you're saying is that all of them are in the wrong place? Great. And there is no way to move them, it seems. (Not that I have a list of them, anyway.) And there are a great many other items currently in Scalemates which, in this case, should not be there.
I will add that nowhere that I've seen, either on the home page or contributor page, is there any mention of the existence of other sites in the family, nor any suggestion that the contributor should consider where to enter their items. This certainly does not help.
And if you feel that some item SHOULD be on more than one site (diorama materials, for example), do you then have to enter them twice?

In the Herpa P 70 example above, the tickbox for Scalemates shows up grey, while the others are green. What does that signify?

You only enter an item once, just select the relevant checkboxes, to move something, just select/de-select.
The "greyed out" box means that you are viewing it through Scalemates, but it is not in SCM, only in RWM and DCM.
If you go to the Herpa P70 and edit, you will see the 2 checkboxes selected.

All 1:76th scale items you have added were bulk assigned to Railwaymates as well

@eddie: The checkboxes are only visible for trusted contributors (2 stars or higher; as it adds another later of complexity to the sometimes already complex system of topics)
@Leif: I marked you as a trusted contributor as you clearly "understand" the scalemates system

Well, it would have been nice to know about this a bit earlier, but better late than never, I suppose. My comment about having a short description about the "family" visible to new members still stands, though. Myself, I happened across a mention of Scalemates on YouTube and had no idea it was part of something bigger. This can be a major disadvantage.
Having designed a few databases myself back in the simpler days of the 1980s and 1990s, I have at least some understanding of the structure.

We typically spot this sooner when people add a working train (eg. 1:87 Marklin train) or a completed model of a car/plane in scale (eg. 1:200 Herpa Wings)

But all (ok lets say 99%) of the items you added also belong on scalemates so it stayed below the radar

I was also on holiday for 2 weeks, only accessing scalemates from my phone. That happens to be the moment you became crazy active for a new member 🙂

Your about me page (eralehm) shows indicators of the different communities, I'll check where else we can add it
