Stupidest 80€ I've ever spend.... First try of airbrushing and didnt work at all and I only get "bubbles".... So 80€ for the.....

shame for you dude.
I did a little review on a cheap airbrush set up I got for similar money and its not bad at all and works fine.
£77 for a well featured compressor and a couple of cheapo airbrushes. I can recommend it 🙂

Looks good! Right now I'm biding on a Evo 2in1 at Ebay and hopefully Ive luck with that and for the compressor we will see. But I hate it that I wanted to save mone there and then but that "shit"....

Hi Soeren, the set is really only for the waste bin. If you buy an Evo, believe me, you will become a lucky man in the future... 🙂

Soeren R. Autor
He hopefully I get this one, because they are not very "cheap" new.... But yeah that was a good lesson not to buy cheap airbrush stuff....

Choppa Nutta
more research, thats what I say to myself when I buy something dumb 🙂
the kit I got was worth it just for the compressor, smooth and adjustable pressure, works well.

Does the Evo 2in1 come with a compressor or are you bidding on just the airbrush ?
 9 October 2014, 20:06
Soeren R. Autor
Yeah I did and after the owner of my "main" store said that the set is not bad and worth it, i took it but yeah beginner mistake i would say (never brushed before and were looking for something cheap to test).
I only bid for the Gun. Compressor would be a Güde compressor then from Amazon for around 100€

One feature that I hope we might see in future with kit and product database is a rating system of some kind 🙂

Soeren R. Autor
That would be a GREAT thing and would help "newbies" like myself, but the next time I will ask before I buy something like said. The good thing of "our" community here is that many people will help you etc.

Nice tool the Evo, I´d say... mine sometimes behaves like an iffy teenager, but works good with Revell Aqua and Tamiya. but to be honest, I haven´t used the smaller nozle for a longe time now... the 0,4 does the job fairly well.
 9 October 2014, 20:19
Wim van der Luijt
I have an harder & Steinbeck evo 2 in 1 also, can be handful sometimes. Learning how to clean it is as important as learning how to spray. Vallejo air and my smallest nozzle don't like each other, but I actually read the recommendations from Vallejo once and it turns out they recommend against the small nozzle 🙂
 9 October 2014, 20:30
Choppa Nutta
yeah that is one nice thing about here is you tend to get advice when you ask 🙂
 9 October 2014, 20:35
Soeren R. Autor
Which nozle would you advice for 1/72 kits with the evo 2 in 1 and Mr Hobby Acrylic colours? In the 2in1 from ebay is a 0.2 nozle
 9 October 2014, 20:48
Burkhard D
"First try and it didn't work at all" - what do you expect? I'd wager that airbrushing never worked for anybody at first try. Try again, and again, and then again.
If you get bubbles, check the seals and tighten the turn of the tip.
 9 October 2014, 20:49
Soeren R. Autor
No I meant with it that the airbrush only bubbles and nothing more - I cleaned it more than once and build it together agian - i used colour, i used water etc etc. nothing changed. And I know that the brushing itself will never work out in the beginning for anyone - thats why i tried it on used joghurt cups 🙂
 9 October 2014, 20:53
Choppa Nutta
a 0.2 nozzle will be just fine for general stuff as well as the fine work 🙂
if you can the Revell one working use it as a spray gun for the larger area stuff
 9 October 2014, 20:59
Soeren R. Autor
Yeah that was my plan, but at first I try to get a new one from my shop or revell. Bought it few weeks ago and used it today for the first time and did this right from the start. So we will see! But after all that Im through will this kit (only will use it for your idea then maybe)
 9 October 2014, 21:01
Choppa Nutta
I use one airbrush just for clear coats, another for primers and the 0.2 nozzle for general paint stuff 🙂
I have heard that Mr Hobby Acrylic colours are good 🙂
 9 October 2014, 21:09
Soeren R. Autor
Yeah my plan was till now only use of for everything - think this will also work good. Maybe later something cheap for primer etc....
And yeah they are good some mates recommended them to me so I bought them 🙂 Will see how they will work as soon as I ve a working airbrush gun 🙂

So there is just the 0,2 included? No 0,4? As Wim and I just said, the 0,2 will clog up quite easily. That turns Airbrushing in one of the most annoying things on earth, pretty frustrating for a beginner. I´ve had no problems brushing some fine detail with my 0,4 nozle: (yes those tiny lids, next to the needle)

 9 October 2014, 21:31
Soeren R. Autor
No sadly only the 0.2 but if I will get it for the price I bid then I can still buy a 0.4 nozle and its still cheaper than a new one

Fabian D.
Just wanted you warned😉
 9 October 2014, 21:50
Soeren R. Autor
Yeah i know 🙂 and thx for that. But right know its sadly the only 2 in 1 gun as a auction at ebay. So you catch what you can 😛
 9 October 2014, 21:55
Choppa Nutta
Good points Fabian, a good clean up routine always helps though 🙂
 9 October 2014, 21:57
Soeren R. Autor
Yeah u believe that instantly 🙂 already cleaned the Revell extremly and that 3-4 time because i hoped that that is maybe the reason but i was wrong 😛
 9 October 2014, 22:02
Fabian D.
Not really Choppa, that kind of clogging happens actually during spraying...

Are you sure that the Revell Basic comes with a 0,2mm nozzle? I'd be vey surprised, as 0,2mm is usually found with high-end ABs only..
 10 October 2014, 05:28
Soeren R. Autor
No it's a 0.5mm nozzle if I'm correct
 10 October 2014, 05:40
Wim van der Luijt
mine bubbled because one of the seals (O-rings) wasn't working anymore....this can be a result of tightening everything too much....it's worth a check....In my case replace a single O-ring solved a lot of problems
 10 October 2014, 07:34
Soeren R. Autor
Yeah thats why I go to my shop today so that they have any clue what it can be and if they have maybe "spare" parts then.
But if this happens after using it only for one time and also the first time it was used (where it was already not working correct), I don't know what I should think about the whole product...
 10 October 2014, 07:36
Soeren R. Autor
So it is a production error from revell. Got New Parts and now its working. But i still gonna buy a EVO and a New compressor soon
 10 October 2014, 13:38
Wim van der Luijt
sit on your money for awhile....get some experience with this one....then, once you find out what you like/dislike you can buy exactly what you need....that's what I would do....I started out with cans of compressed air, because I wasn't sure I was going to like the whole airbrush experience 😉
 10 October 2014, 14:06
Soeren R. Autor
Yeah true. This was also the reason why I bought this "cheap" set instead of something expensive 🙂
And yeah I dont wanted to buy it right away. Maybe in 2-3 months or so 🙂 Or later!
 10 October 2014, 14:08
Aleksandrs P
i also plan to buy this set , as i'm gonna try to airbrush something for the first time. I think there nothing on the market under 100euro for beginners😉

Trust me, when I say "Dont buy this crap!".
Spent some more money and get a good starter set instead of this, its a completely different thing in my opinion!
So get a cheap double action airbrush (even a china replica is better as a start tool then this Revell thing) and a cheap compressor and you will be probably around 130 to 150€.
 28 July 2016, 05:08
Ingo F
Nah, i would not say that this set is crap. It was my first compressor and my first airbrush. It is good for the first steps to learn how to brush bigger areas and collect some experience with the airbrush. Yeah the airbrush is not the best and it was hard to paint some small areas with the 0,5mm, so i bought an cheap double action airbrush with a 0,3mm nozzle and still use it with this compressor. Though i was planning to buy a new compressor in the future. If possible something small, any suggestions? 🙂

I like to say: Who buys cheap, buys twice and thats the same for this set.

Guys, take a look at this, a very good beginners set :
sparmaxair.com/produ..il.php?id=1&r=55
It sells for 250€, but it's very good quality, i tried it at my local art store a few weeks ago.
 28 July 2016, 12:10
Soeren R. Autor
For 250€ you will also get a good compressor (AS 196 etc.) and a Evolution 2in1 or Hansa 281 etc.
So like I said: Spent a little bit more money and buy something good then this Revell stuff which you will sell (or throw away) after a few weeks/months.
 28 July 2016, 12:31
Choppa Nutta
Germen, that compressor looks quite dinky, very portable too, ideal for dropping in for the day at Bobbies shop etc. for a days airbrushing etc. 😄
Couldn't see a price for it though 🙂

Anyhow, I ended up going for the Foxhunter Airbrush kit because it was reasonably priced at £80 and the compressor had some good features, humidity filter, compression tank for a smoother airflow, adjustable air pressure, a few safety features and reasonably quiet too, plus it comes with two ok airbrushes with tools and all the leads, hoses etc.

Had it a while now and it has proven itself reliable thus far, I can recommend this as a good starter set for all airbrush novices and with a bit of hunting around you might be able to find it a bit cheaper.

Choppa Nutta, i got that same compressor, i think i paid it 120€ . The sparaw set was 250€ at my local art shop

Choppa Nutta
Cool, how you getting on with yours Germen ? all good I hope 🙂
That Sparmax is expensive at €250 .... dinky though 🙂

I just think for the money it's a great starter set, I'm really glad I didn't buy an expensive airbrush straight away and made my initial mistakes on some cheap airbrushes first as I broke a couple of them through novice ineptitude 🙂

But the compressor is good though, sure there are better ones with bigger air tanks for more money etc. but it gives smooth airflow and is easy to use etc. I like it, one of my wisest purchases ever 😄

That AS186 is kind of a generic compressor sold under different brand names. I got one for EUR99 over here, under the 'WilTec' brand. Great for the recreational modeler, but if you are spraying frequently and have longer sessions, the air tank is too small. I'd go for something with at least a 5 Liter tank then.
 28 July 2016, 15:48
Choppa Nutta
Yeah a bigger air tank would be nice but the 3 liter one it has works well, even if it does kick the compressor on more often during longer sessions, but the airflow remains smooth which is the main thing for me, using lower pressure settings help though 🙂

You're right though Burkhard I don't think it would be suitable for a professional all day every day constant running workshop but for the regular hobbyist it works well, I've had had no problems with it during longer sessions, just have to keep an eye on the cylinder head temps,
I've been thinking about attaching a PC cooling fan on to the head of mine for those longer sessions 🙂

For me it was the best compromise price v quality, it will be long while before I feel the need to upgrade it, although if & when I do I would probably go for a 10 liter air tank 🙂

Mini is running great, although i got the same problem that it runs hot sometimes.. Now i'm gonna see to invest in a better gun.
 28 July 2016, 16:26
Soeren R. Autor
Thats true Burkhard, but for somebody like me a 2,5 l tank in my Sparmax is perfect.

But after all everybody has to decide what he wants to buy, but I can really recommend to think about it, because if you buy the Revell set, you will definitely buy a better set a few months later - for me it was only a few weeks later.
 28 July 2016, 16:30
Ingo F
Germen that compressor looks good. Small and perfect for me. Thank you for the information.
 28 July 2016, 17:06
Germen V
yes, it's more portable than a Sparmax-like and not 'toy'-like Revell, in fact the Revell 'compressor' is actually nothing more than a souped up airpump from a fishtank
