In late 1999, the army selected the AAI Shadow 200 to fill their tactical UAS requirement, redesignating it the RQ-7. This model represents an early prototype that underwent extensive flight testing. The RQ-7 was put into operation in time to participate in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
