After building a few 1/48 scale kits, I'm taking a crack at another 1/32 Dora. I've decided on White 12, Wk Nr. 500408 from 5./JG 301. I tend to gravitate to the Mimetall camo schemes for some reason.

I'll be using the Hasegawa ST-19 kit with a number of aftermarket items for the build.

The aftermarket goodies include:
Aires cockpit upgrade
HGW riveting set
Eagle cals #32-61
HGW seatbelts
Yahu instrument panel
One man army stencils
Synthetic ordnance works landing gear
Quickboost Exhaust
Eduard canopy masks
Quickboost gun barrels
Master metal gun barrels
Barracuda wheels
Eduard exterior detail set

I wanted to use a Henri Daehne spinner and prop kit, but unfortunately Henri has shut down his shop in Germany for good due to the economic situation. I'll have to make do with the kit prop and spinner.

Mr. Color lacquers along with Tamiya acrylics will be the main paints used.

Here are some photos of the front office and engine plug, which are now complete.

Are the Quickboost (Aries) props no better than the kit ones? Was looking at getting some for my future D9/11 builds

Thanks for the comments, Mates!

Here's some photos showing the current progress. Since the last update, the fuselage has been buttoned up, the gun cover and engine cowling have been attached, the landing gear bay has been assembled, painted and weathered and the wings have been glued together.

I'll be mating the wings and fuselage next. Thanks for looking. Comments and critiques always welcome.

Thanks Mates. I've primed and preshaded the beast. I also added some spatter template work to create variation in the painted areas. The underwing metal surface areas were primed in black, the RV band area was primed in white, and the rest in grey. Black preshading was used for the grey areas, RLM76 for the white and neutral grey for the black. I've also applied the HGW decals for the fabric control surfaces. Thanks for looking.

Joining late but really looking forward where this paint-job will go... Pre shading looks like a fridge-nightmare monster, which is fully intended as a compliment..!! 👍

Thanks Slavo. The HGW positive rivets are now applied. Main painting is next. Thanks for looking.

Those rivets look fabulous - were they easy to apply, I never worked with anything like this... Also - any particular reason to do pre-shading before rivets? Do you want/plan for them to be generally "slightly lighter than everything else" in the paintjob?

In any case, looking forward to the further steps - all so far looking pretty fab! 👍

Thanks Slavo. The rivets go on just like ordinary decals. Under light colors the rivets look dark and add nice detail. Under dark colors they are barely visible. Buffing or sanding with extremely fine grit pads will reveal the bright silver color.

The last time I used the rivets I applied them directly to the primer and the subsequent paint layers buried the rivets enough that the light sanding required the removal of some of my post shading work to reveal the silver color.

My approach this time is to get them a little higher in the paint stack so I don't lose the pre-shading. Some modelers apply them even higher in the paint stack -- on top of the first base camo layer. This is only the second time I've used them and will see how it goes.

Thanks Guy.

Main camo painting is now complete.

I included a couple of shots after painting and masking the NMF under the wings, the RV band and the RLM76 control surfaces. The blue-green version of RLM76 has also been applied to the fuselage areas.

Then there are shots from various angles fresh after painting complete and masking removed. I have not micro meshed the surfaces yet to smooth the paint and expose rivets in selected areas. I'll do that in the morning.

The overall sequence was primarily my standard Luftwaffe fighter method:

1. RV band
2. Underside of wings, stabs and fuselage NMF, RLM76
3. Upper surfaces of wings and stabs RLM81/RLM82 (fuselage masked)
4. Upper fuselage RLM81/RLM82, including mottles on the tail (wings masked)

The wings were masked using the floating mask method - paper cut outs elevated ~1mm above the surface with little tape rolls.

The fuselage was painted freehand.

Post-fading and shading was applied to all colors.

Mr. Color lacquers were used for all colors.

That's it for now. Marking are next -- I'll be using and combination of masks and a few decals.

Thanks for stopping by.

The markings have now been applied. I've posted some close-ups to show the details of the various markings and the rivet patterns. Most of the markings are stencil masks from 1 Man Army -- the first time I've used them and they are amazing. The white 12, Hakenkreuz and work numbers are decals from Eagle Editions -- still waiting for these to dry. The next step will be to buff and lightly sand the surfaces to expose the rivets, particularly in high traffic areas.

Thanks for looking!

White 12 is now complete. Since the last update, I've added a gloss coat, applied a panel line wash, weathered the airframe with airbrushed grime and colored pencils. Final assembly was straightforward and now she's done. Thanks for looking and following along!

Congrats on a great finish - big scale utilized at it's best for both detail and realism - the degree of effects on the paint-job and wear & tear perfectly reflecting what these short-lived, late-war planes must have looked like...

Cool stuff from A-to-Z, was a pleasure following 👍🏻

Thank you all for the encouraging comments. It's really appreciated and I'm glad you enjoyed the journey and final outcome. The detective work and photo interpretation add to the fun of these late war plane projects. Thanks again Mates!
