Good start

Oh, i´ll have a look here. Nice start. Construction seems to be a quick Task. How is the fit?

Cuajete
Interesting project. Following.

Katya Hodgson
It's a nice little plane. The fit is reasonable, but there are a few spots that are definitely going to need a touch of filler.

Managed to wedge a cocktail stick into the auxiliary rocket engine, so was able to prime it all in one go. Also filled the gaps beforehand.

Also found some 1/72 Japanese decals in my spares, so am being tempted to do it in Japanese markings, since it is a "what-if".

Martin Bishop
Nice work, does seem to go together quick, the Japanee markings sound like a nice idea.

With Hinomarus? Cool, and why not? Maybe the construction copies have been send to japan before the unconditional surrender of germany?😉
16 November 2018, 16:39
Katya Hodgson
Well, it is one of those "1946" kits. I'll probably be painting top side bluey green, and underside silver. 🙂

Not only do I have some Hinomarus, I actually have some tail markings and similar things, they're left over from a 1/72 Kikka I did a while ago.

Nice idea!
A Luft'46 "What-if" with propulsion powered by alkaline batteries. The German engineers were well ahead of their time 😛
Good and fast progress, Katya! 👍

Actually a Heinkel HeS 011, and a Walther HWK 109-509. :3

And thanks! It has been pretty simple so far, it's a rather teeny plane. I only hope I can manage the air brush ok for the green colour... i'm still having problems with it.

Thanks for reminding me I need some button cells for my remote...
Sweet plane btw!

Interesting project, I'll follow 👍

Thanks! Glad to have you both here. 🙂

The primer has gone weird in some places and ruined parts of the model. 🙁
16 November 2018, 22:18
Augie
Hmm, can it be sanded smooth?
16 November 2018, 22:32
Katya Hodgson
I had a go but I didn't seem to do much, I think it has somehow melted the plastic. I have no idea what happened or how, and neither does anyone else I have asked. I have used this primer before many times and never seen anything like this. 🙁
16 November 2018, 22:38
Augie
What was the primer?
16 November 2018, 22:51
Katya Hodgson
Citadel Chaos Black, from a rattle can.
16 November 2018, 22:58
Katya Hodgson
I tried to fix it, sanded it off. It's not perfect and I destroyed half the panel lines and details in the process. 🙁
16 November 2018, 23:10
Augie
Ok, so its not perfect but its better. Panel lines can with care be re-scribed. there are a few ways of doing it.
17 November 2018, 00:14
Donald Dickson II
Sometimes primer will do that. I think it may be a reaction to the release agent. It SHOULD simply sand off. As Augie said, the panel lines can be rescribed. Its a pain, but not difficult.

John Thomas
Katya, did you wash or clean the plastic before spraying the primer? You may have had a spot of contaminate on the model like finger oils. I all way give my models a good wash and let dry before spraying any primer or paint.
17 November 2018, 02:41
Katya Hodgson
I didn't wash it no, but I have never washed any of my models, and never seen anything like this.
17 November 2018, 06:36
Donald Dickson II
I have had it happen a couple times and I also do not wash my kits. Thats why I am guessing it is the mold release agent. It was likely heavy in those areas and thats the result.
17 November 2018, 06:39
Katya Hodgson
Took advantage of the delay to build the landing gear. Decided it would be easier to paint it all at once.

It may help to warm the rattle can first, particularly in Autumn/Winter – I put it in the sink with warm water and then shake it for a couple of minutes. Did you apply the primer in one thick coat? If so, two or three thin coats are better as with all sprayed paint.
I don't wash my models and have never had a problem as a result and apparently (I was told by someone who used to work in the industry) that "The chances of you buying a kit that's covered in mould release is about the same as you winning the lottery." So that's unlikely to be the problem.
17 November 2018, 09:14
Katya Hodgson
Normally I don't spray them all at once, but this time I did, so that may have been the problem after all. I'll have to be more careful in future.

I think this kit is at least somewhat salvageable, although as always it won't be as good as if I had not messed up. 🙁

Round 2...
17 November 2018, 09:35
Augie
its all part of learning 🙂 sometimes i take scrap plastic from old kits and mess it up intentionally so I can try to rectify the damage.
17 November 2018, 12:15
Katya Hodgson
It's so shiny!
17 November 2018, 12:46
Holger Kranich
I am blended!😉
17 November 2018, 16:04
Katya Hodgson
I decided to do the whole thing silver after all (although i'll add an anti-glare patch and paint the bits which shouldn't be silver).
17 November 2018, 16:11
Alexander Grivonev
Holger, I think you are blinded 😄 blending yourself hurts
17 November 2018, 16:55
Katya Hodgson
Realised I will also need to add the yellow edges to the wings since i'm doing it in Japanese markings. I hope the yellow paint I have will work over the silver...

Gordon Sørensen
Great NMF finish, Kayta! What paint did you use?
17 November 2018, 18:22
Katya Hodgson
Humbrol "Chrome Silver" from a rattle can, over Citadel Chaos Black as a primer. 🙂
17 November 2018, 19:24
Cuajete
Nice metallized!
17 November 2018, 19:48
Katya Hodgson
Thanks! It was sort of a test for the F-80 model I have to make later. Happy to say it worked really well!
17 November 2018, 19:58
Donald Dickson II
Great job on that finish! Gloves are your best friend now with that finish.
18 November 2018, 04:22
Katya Hodgson
Painting is done! Once it dries I can add the decals. 🙂

Interesting. I like it!
18 November 2018, 23:48
Katya Hodgson
Thanks! Finished now, with the decals on. 🙂
19 November 2018, 07:19
Patrick Hagelstein
Wow! Flashy! What did you use for the metal paint?
19 November 2018, 07:52
Katya Hodgson
Humbrol Acrylic Spray number 191 "Chrome Silver" over a black primer. 🙂
19 November 2018, 11:56
Patrick Hagelstein
Thanks! Looks good!
19 November 2018, 17:08
Katya Hodgson
Thank you. 🙂

Hopefully it works as well on the F-80 model I have to make in the future...
