Start this by stripping off the chrome so I can cement the frame and so I can sand out that miserable seam. Then paint it with Testors Met. Silver.

Got room for a pillion there Bossy?

You're welcome to ride along but it's going to be snug😉

I'll sit on the seat, you sit on the tank! Was that swing arm two halves? If so you have done a magical job in concealing the join!!

bossy122
Yup. Even I was impressed. I usually half ass sanding but i'm really happy that it looks like one piece. No putty , by the way.

Bloody awesome mate! I'm impressed anyway! Is the tank a slit job as well? I have this one in the stash but never opened it.

Hmmm....let me check.....yes, it is 2 pieces. Oh, joy. More sanding. Gives me something to do 🙂

Nice work with the sanding stick and filler... nice metal finish too

Peter Hardy
Oh course Bossy, now you have set your own standard, I expect perfection!

Frickin Tamiya and their insistance on using colored plastics have delayed me a tad. They mould what should be a white wheel in gray plastic. No way I get that painted with TS26 so that it's even. I have to go buy some white in a jar to airbrush.....I hate airbrushing. So, thank you, Tamiya.

Ahhh, build a bridge and get over it! Not a real build unless you solve 10 problems!!

One of the great mysteries in life, besides how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop, is why Tamiya insists on using colored plastics. Hasegawa uses all white ( at least with rally cars) for the perfect white canvas on which to create.

Peter, you jinxed me!😉 The cement came off the brush WAY too much, ran right under my thumb and gave me extra work. I think im reverting back to my 8 year old self.
29 March 2019, 22:45
Peter Hardy
I'd lol but I did the same thing with kicker and melted the Alclad. Might need to use a filler base coat to make the join disappear? Are you using Tamiya extra thin glue? That works a bit like plastic welding. Very good for tanks and those damn swing arms.
29 March 2019, 23:02
bossy122
I had some of that, but apparently I used it all. Now it's good old Testors cement. And I just got the wheels painted....which revealed the mould seams.....typical.

Thank you... Awesome build by the way, I have a Tamiya YZF-R1 but am a little scared to start it, it looks to nice on the part trees.

The pipes....the pipes are calling. Oh, Danny boy, I thought painting these things was going to be the challenge. Sanding out all these seams.......ooooooh
15 April 2019, 21:40
Bart Goesaert
enjoy the sanding... all the lines that you see, are these supposed to be weldlines? Otherwise you can sand these flush, and recreate them by streched sprue... can make things more easy...
16 April 2019, 06:35
bossy122
The hope is that the 2 pieces seams will be mostly obscured. Regardless, it's going to be some work. And yes, I believe those are supposed to be weld lines.
17 April 2019, 03:12
Mirko Römer
Yes, they are. If you can hide the seams, everything should be fine. These weld lines costed probably more than a small car....
17 April 2019, 15:38
bossy122
I got the two wider spaced ones done but those other two.....ugh. I was thinking of trying thread to replace the lines. I'll have to try that around a sprue and see how it looks.

Thanks. Hoping the decals survive as this must be one of the few kits there dont appear to be any after markets for. One of the tail pipe carbons tried to crumble on me but I saved it. Fingers crossed.

Cowling done. Heads up, those decals are hyper sensetive to Microsol.

Did they break up Bossy?

Bart Goesaert
Looking good, even very good
3 July 2019, 03:41
bossy122
No, but they creased really badly. After the first light blue one reacted so fiercly, I just applied Microsol to the parts that needed to conform to edges, etc.
It's coming along, thanks.
