This turned out very nice. I think the weathering looks great 👍. I will have to try that blackbasing, although not sure how well that will translate into 1:72 scale.

Yeah, the tonal variation in the paint, paint chipping and the prop show quite nice, but the streaks on the underside are more pronounced in real life. I think I was thinking faster than I was typing 🙂

I think you might be able to get some nice effects with blackbasing in 1:72. The biggest challenge is to spray small, from real close (around 2 cm from the surface), low pressure, really thin paint and patience. When I get into the zone I can do the whole airplane, but it takes almost all day. So it helps when you break it into sections. Although, it might be easier in 1:72, because you do not have that much to cover 🙂 Anyway, look up "Blackbasing 201" on youtube from Doogsmodels. It is a great series to learn about blackbasing.

True! I totally discovered blackbasing and I build predominately 1/72. But I have to yet try it to an airplane that has such small panels as this Jug. Looks incredible by the way! 👍

Album info

There 2 major problems with this project:

1. One of the fuselage parts was undershot which was a pain to fix, but it is mostly hidden under the fuel tank, so not a big deal after all

2. I applied too much hairspray, so the paint was lifting like crazy and there was major masking involved. Not only invasion stripes, yellow stripes, but I also sprayed the insignia. I got to a point where I decided to strip the whole paint to bare plastic and resprayed the whole aircraft. On the other hand, since I like to airbrush, I had the fun doubled :-D I decided to use decals, which worked ok for the insignia, but I had to make the letters 5, F and A. Not a big deal, just black and white print.

The whole plane is prayed using Mr. Paint. Weathering is mostly pastels and some enamel washes. Interestingly it does not show up much on the final pictures - it is more visible in real life. Oh, well...
