Excellent build David I really like that open engine 👍. Not sure how that decal halo effect happened. Maybe your setting solution (I am assuming you used some) reacted with the paint?

Probably, decals are always magic. There is always some surprise. If not, I get nervous. Not really 🙂 I started to do utility clear coats. Hopefully that will eliminate some of that magic.

One has to look very closely to notice the halo. What do you mean by utility clear coats?

Just spray it with clear varnish to protect the paint.

Album info

This was a nice kit to build. Cannot beat Tamiya quality really. I added the Aires cockpit which was easier to fit than the one on my Avia C-10 build.

I used Mr. Paint for painting the model. Really great paint. Currently my favorite hands down. Used black basing again - there is a lot of pictures from that process. It takes time, but worth doing. And I like airbrushing in general, so I really enjoyed that part.

Then, decals came. To my surprise a halo formed around their edges, so that was annoying. Got my airbrush, fixed that, but there was a weird bump around as well. Not sure if it was the thickness of the decal or I did something wrong. So at this point this aircraft build turned in a car build 🙂 Sprayed bunch of layers of clear and sand it down. I fixed most of it, but if you look closely you can see that halo on some close up pictures.

I also liked the engine and opted for the open variant. It could use more weathering I guess. Need to study more reference pictures for that.
