Hasegawa is the lighter grey molding?

The lightest grey is the Trumpeter kit. Hasegawa is the D (bubbletop) version, known to be accurate both in shape and size.

Thanks for info! Interesting to hear! And a P 51 is definately on my to do list!

In that case, stay away from the Trumpeter Kit. If you want a decent P-51B the only game in town is the 1969 released Revell kit, not only many times cheaper, but also more accurate, as well (in spite of the bad press it received). Or maybe wait for a decent Tamiya/Hasegawa release of the Razorback?

I have built both, and agree the Revell is more accurate. I just re-scribed mine and sanded down some of the raised rivets. Also used a PE cockpit detail set and Resin wheels.

We are in 2017 and there are just 2 kits of this major aircraft on the market. One is old, the other one is crap. Still hoping for a new accurate mold out of the box!

You think Hasegawa, Tamiya or someone else would take a hint. It would be nice if Revell would release a new tool "B" like their new Spits. and 109's.

Regarding the wing sections, I think you might have your terms crossed,
Mustang wings were noted for their "Laminar Flow", not axial flow,
axial flow occurs around an axis, such as axial flow gas turbine engines 🙂

Anyhow, seems that the moral of this story is do not get the Trumpeter Mustang kit 🙂

Album info

The two plastic kits available of the P-51 Razorback in 1:32 compared, with the Hasegawa D (universally recognized as accurate) used as a benchmark. Shape-wise the Revell is much, much more accurate.
