That's a winner! Phantastic paint job. Even in acryl the faces of the crew look very god to me. I would be glad, if I would come a bit close to it...

Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thanks Frank
The colors are a little grey on the pics.It was a very cloudy day.Have you seen the field modification of the jerry can into a portable BBQ Grill (the Engine Stowage)?? It realy exists.
23 September 2012, 09:53
Frank Krause
Yeah, that's really a nice add-on! What did you use for it? Wire? The rope also looks good. What kind of thread did you use?
23 September 2012, 10:06
Aghis Barberopoulos
Excellent work, this is a classic of epic proportions I would say ! And I am sure it is even more amazing from up close...
23 September 2012, 10:07
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Frank, the grill is made from thin wire. And the thread is normal sewing thread in a brown color with a dark wash dipped in thined whiteglue.

Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thanks ,Aghis 🙂

Thats sad Phil.
Last time it was more a "drive by in a possitive way"as we met.
23 September 2012, 16:59
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
I think i will bend over the antenna mast to the front and knot it down with the towing hook.
23 September 2012, 17:36
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Phil,have a good time!
23 September 2012, 17:42
Dirk Heyer
Wonderful paint-job you did here!
As I wrote previously the tank painting tells a story. So full of live and so many nuances, superb!!
The figures are also very skilful painted. The first picture is mind blowing, I agree with Steve, thought it is a real one, wow! The driver was bit nerved? He looks like: Ooh no and again a picture, kill the guy with the big camera in front! 🙂

The daylight isn`t so bad, the full sun is often too bright and blends all the different shadings. It`s ok so, like the real thing.

So many little features, holy crab. The BBC grill is the burner, 🙂

Btw, I will be in Veldhoven.
Und diesmal petz ich die Arschbacken zusammen das Du mal nen Platz schießt! 🙂
Gell😉

Amazing figures on a great model indeed!
3 October 2012, 15:12
Christian Lehmann
Hi Markus,
the figures look very realistic (the tank too) 😉-
3 October 2012, 15:24
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
I am allways suprised that the figures are judged for good ,because the Figures i am allways afraid off.(i didnt even decided which technic i will use ,oil or acrylic.this time i used acrylics in thin layers because i wanted the figures ready for the KMK.And oil takes longer to dry and i overspray the faces with a matt varnish when i use oils because of their gloss look.
3 October 2012, 18:56
Mike Kryza
Markus - you are a deep piler(?) - Tiefstapler... 😉
3 October 2012, 19:53
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Highlight Two ......Pinsel......Pinsel.......Pinsel nach 10 min
usw
Er hat 10 Highlights und 10 Shadows.(die 15 min Base Paint nicht eingerechnet)
Bis der alles durch hatte war ich eingepennt 🙂
3 October 2012, 20:11
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Mike, iam honest.i got no patience. Have you ever seen the dvd of Oliver Kovac on Painting Figures with Acrylics?
I tell you.... ...
One highlight brush .... .... ..... brush........ brush ... after 10 minutes
Highlight Two ...... ...... brush.... brush.... brush..... after 10 minutes .......
etc.....
He has 10 Highlights and 10 Shadows. (Not 15 min Base Paint included)
Until he had it all-I had fallen asleep 🙂
3 October 2012, 20:17
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Although it is great what he does.
Like "Guns and Roses"sings...
all we need is just a little patience 🙂
3 October 2012, 20:20
Dirk Heyer
Who sell this video and how much it cost?
I`m highly interested in DVD`s like this one!! 🙂
Thx so far

You have to feel more secure about your ability to paint figures😉
3 October 2012, 21:16
Dave Creel
Nicely Done Markus! Are those Alpine Figures? Very nicely done! 🙂
3 October 2012, 21:56
Freddy F
wow !
3 October 2012, 22:06
Christian Lehmann
Markus, don´t care so much about videos of other people. Do it your own style. It´s is important that you are satisfied with the result. The rest is fashion which comes and goes. In the 80 ties and 90 ties it was Verlinden Style which did not look realistic due to my opinion, now it is ( I don´t know what style) 🙂
and most importatnt: patience is the key
4 October 2012, 05:26
Holger Kranich
Ihr habt beide Recht! Geduld ist der Schlüssel in diesem Fall! Auch wenn es an das Ontos-Dio geht aber da hör ich dann lieber😉 " welcome to the jungle"😢
4 October 2012, 05:33
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
I agree with ,Chris. When u got an own style that can allways be identified (like a Mig Model or Wilder)its the best that can happen to you.
And yes ,iam satisfied with the result (i was very close to the "Modelling Blues").Because of that i decided that the Dio has to wait for the Pershing. It would be only hastily put together(i know me 🙂
@Dirk
you can get it here....
sockelshop.de/catalo..colours-p-35563.html
@Holger
That fits Perfect,Mate!
@Chris
I am no fan of intense Drybrushing,it looks to light for me.Perhaps a little on the Stowage to make it more interesting.Like my wife says ,if its overdone it looks to much like "Plastic"😭i know ,that is what its made of).But in my opinion it should more look like worn Steel.Than i prefer more the colormodulation wich got more richness.
@Dave
The tank Commander is an Alpine Figure, the Radio Operator is one from S&T (John Rosengrant )wich in my opinion is one of the best Figure modeller (check this out..
treefrogtreasures.co..k-of-John-Rosengrant
This Dio is one of my References if it comes to dynamic ,dramatic and perfect figures.
(perhaps someday i will get there!!...I know..........Paaaaaatttiiieeenncceeeeee!! 🙂
The driver has a body i dont know (you dont see much of that either way)with a Hornet Head.
Again ,thanks Mates for all your motivating comments.! :-D
4 October 2012, 07:27
Steve Wilson
Don't get me wrong Markus, as I think you have modelled a fantastic replica here... But I'm particularly impressed with the kit bags and bedrolls in the last picture. Did you make these yourself from scratch? or did they come as part of the kit?
4 October 2012, 09:10
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi Steve
See pic.15 and 16 for explanation.
No ,the parts are not in the Kit .They are a mix from Royal Model and Verlinden.
I wanted to make more stowage by myself ,but ...no Time (next exhibition was waiting)

Hi Mates
Back from the Scale Model Factory.
Unbeliveable high quality models in every categorie.
Thats why my Pershing didnt make it to a Medal.
Congrats to all winners.
A great show,i enjoyd it!🙂
14 October 2012, 19:45
Steve Wilson
Never mind Markus, I think it deserves a Medal...🙂🙂🙂
14 October 2012, 19:54
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi Steve
Thanks ,friend.
This one got a medal in my heart (oh very pathetic):-D
14 October 2012, 19:58
Mike Kryza
Hi Markus - you can't even follow the judgment of a jury...
But you have the motivation...😉
14 October 2012, 20:04
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi Mike
They played at the end "Always look on the bright side of life" of the competition.
That says everything :-D

Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thats not so bad,Steve. It was fun to be there and that is what counts.
14 October 2012, 20:21
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Life is serious enough!
14 October 2012, 20:22
Steve Wilson
I meant generally, we modellers can spend many hours working on a labour of love. When we've finished it can go in a cabinet and never get the appreciation it deserves, apart from ourselves!!!
14 October 2012, 20:30
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thats totaly on the point Steve. That is why i hardly can understand ,that some modellers sell their models .
You spend hours of time(and perhaps money with all the aftermarket kits),and give it away.
Dont anyone tell me ,its a matter of how high the price is!I will lend it to a museum or so but never sell!
14 October 2012, 20:44
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
But that is one thing that you should anyone know by himself.
14 October 2012, 20:54
Steve Wilson
I do not mind building someones model kit for that person, as long as they reimburse me for my time, effort and materials used. But yes I agree I could not sell my own models, whats the point of building it.
14 October 2012, 20:54
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
I didnt build a kit for a person, but if i look at my models and the joy and sometimes anger i put in it ,it would be hard for me to build a model by order ,i think.
14 October 2012, 21:02
Dirk Heyer
I`ve seen these amazing model in real yesterday in Eindhoven. And hey, it is really a beauty, so well built and the paint job is in real absolutely mind-blowing. I examined more than one time this masterpiece. This model deserved a trophy!!!
Wonderful work!!
In addition to your previous discussion about selling models.
Pls, let me show you another side of the medal. I don`t have a lot of space for all my built models. No museum nor any other institution was disposed to exhibit my models. So I was constrained to sell some of my gems. The most new owner have estimated my models! One of them is Christian Meyerhoff ( he is a SM Mate) and I`m proud that he like my model !! 🙂
So, sometimes life dictated no easy ways to go... 🙂
Greetz
Dirk

Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi Dirk .
I enjoined meeting you and the guys .I got a space problem ,too.If anyone wants to buy a model or dio from me ,it would be hard give it away. But when i know it is in "good hands",perhaps i think about it .🙂
15 October 2012, 12:40
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
And thanks for the great words about my Pershing.:-D
15 October 2012, 12:41
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi Mates
@James
The Crew is painted only with acrylics! It was the first time !Perhaps i wasnt patient enough because you paint highlights and shadows in many very diluted layers (glaze).
25 January 2013, 08:23
Christian Meyerhoff
Impressive work. Very well done!
25 January 2013, 10:40
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thanks Christian ! 😄
Looking forward for more pics of your Henschel.
25 January 2013, 16:10
Christian Meyerhoff
Markus, I will try my best but I`m not the fastest builder anyway.
25 January 2013, 19:55
Roland Roth
Stark, Markus 👍
Aber ich vermisse irgend etwas zum Befestigen des Gerödels auf dem Motorengitter😉
25 January 2013, 20:02
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
25 January 2013, 20:23
Alberto Bianchi
Really nice work! What kind of acrylic paints used for faces? Use the acrylic retarder ?
26 January 2013, 00:42
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Thanks Mates
I appreciate that much! 🙂
@Alberto
I used the Vallejo Flesh paint set.No retarder just diluted it with water on a wet pallete.
28 January 2013, 11:56
Alberto Bianchi
Thanks Markus 🙂
30 January 2013, 10:19
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
@Alberto
Dont forget to add the Higlights and Shadows in very diluted layers.Though acrylics dry very fast i reduce the drying time by hairdryer (so you see in seconds the result).Have patience (something i have to learn too) to add layer after layer. And check your result after a few steps in Daylight!
30 January 2013, 13:25
james johnson
...Aha!!
This is the one!! Yeah, the scratch built cooking stove, the acrylic face painting!

Is this diorama in reference to that famous footage in Cologne?
When do we get to see your T-34/85??
Thanks,
Jim
30 January 2013, 13:48
Markus Kutsch The Plastic Bench
Hi Jim
No it isnt in reference to the Cologne Pershing. Its a unit that was somewhere in April 1945 in germany.I was born in the town named Aachen. The Tanks did their training in this area.
T-34/85 ........ ohhh man,iam still with the Ontos crew(Dio). And i got an eye on the M551 Sheridan for the next Project.Oh......and there is a Ma.k that waits to be build. 🙂
30 January 2013, 14:13
Alberto Bianchi
@Markus
Diluted thin layers of color, a bit like you do with Pre-Shade/Post Shade Technique of tanks and planes!... I did not know this! Great, the first painting of a figure I try this technique. thanks
30 January 2013, 16:20
Manfred D.S.

Album info

Hi Mates
Thats my Pershing with his very tired Crew at the End of the War.
My first try with painting only faces with acrylics (because time was short to the next exhibition).I will on further Figures stay by the Oil technic of painting faces.Iam more a fan of blending then to put many layers of high diluted Acrylics to the face.Perhaps i give it someday a new try.
Hope you enjoy the Pics.
