Is this a kit or are you going to create the fuselage halves from putty???😢
16 August 2014, 19:32
Duncan Cook
This is no putty, Can't you see I carved this out a soap bar? 😄
16 August 2014, 19:41
Holger Kranich
Oh silly me, yes now i see it!😄😄

Got a Problem, My Putty is almost empty. 🙁 Maybe I will find another tube somwhere.

Looks nice. I haven't done a minicrap ship yet,and there is a reason. Lol
17 August 2014, 01:15
Dave Flitton
Is it really that bad!
17 August 2014, 01:20
B
Dave, these kits are a piece of crap. I did there 1/72 and I basically remolded the whole nose in putty. And the fit was so bad, putty wasn't enough to fill it. So in other words, don't get one.

Dave Flitton
I think I have one all ready. I may not want to look.

Plastic lamination is a more stable and expedient method for a task such as this one where contours are being altered to such a degree.

Uploaded more pictures, tried something new on the decks: because they were not in the same level as the hull, I applied small sausages of putty to the gluelines, and so I could adjust the levell of the deck with the hull and I had almost no problem with heightdifferences, but I still needed a lot of putty.
And now, I got a new problem, I don't know which paint I should use for the deck, I could not find usefull pictures, mostly, the Spruances are shot from the side, or the picture quallity is poor.

Try this:

navysite.de/dd/dd963.htm

By the way, not much of the applied putty left on the hull😉

Some gaps were sanded away, becuse I had to sand so much.
Sanded away with the putty.

Not going to buy another one of those.

Awful! Sorry for that...

"Project is dead, lost 2 vital parts" !! 🙁
no chance of completing it with battle damage instead then ?

One part is a smoke stack, the other part is one of the parts I need to asemble the propulsion unit.
Maybe I can find something or the parts.

Duncan Cook
I'm trying something that might solve my problems. I will keep you up to date.
29 September 2014, 18:07
Choppa Nutta
cool, I did think the smoke if it is a cylinder might be an easy fix and if the propulsion bits are all on the underneath then perhaps a sea diorama ? 🙂

Christian Meyerhoff
Well Duncan... While looking at the first pictures of this album, my first thought was that this one came from a bakery store. 🙂
But after sanding down the putty it looks like a ship's hull. Just kidding. Very nice job so far. Tried something like that from the Dragon range, using tons of putty as well and never finished it till today.
29 September 2014, 18:40
Duncan Cook
Well, Dragon is much more comfortable to build than minicrap. YOu should finish it.
29 September 2014, 18:49
Christian Meyerhoff
Never heard about a company called MINICRAP😉 Did you spell something wrong? BTW, the Dragon one isn`t better. Maybe I will take some pics of my mistake in 1:700 scale tomorrow and post them here.

Please do

Belive it or not, I lost another part, but the circumstances are odd.
I layed the two propulsion shafts on my cutting map, turned around for a second and one is gone, while the other one was where I left it. I don't understand, It's gone.
I start to belie that my mother is playing a trick on me, while she is sitting on her cloud and is laughing her butt off.
30 September 2014, 17:13
Choppa Nutta
sure you were not seeing double ? 😄
30 September 2014, 17:20
Duncan Cook
No, I shit you not, I've place both party on my cutting map, and then one part is gone.
30 September 2014, 17:26
Choppa Nutta
oh dear perhaps it has rolled off onto the floor or it has got stuck to your elbow ?
30 September 2014, 17:34
Christian Meyerhoff
The carpet monster is allways watching you...
30 September 2014, 17:42
Duncan Cook
I ain't found shit, I looked everywhere. THis is the odd thing about it, it's gone.
30 September 2014, 18:11
Choppa Nutta
a frustrating feeling isn't it, I lost the rear view mirror to my last Spitfire and that was annoying enough.
Sea diorama it is then 🙂
30 September 2014, 18:20
Duncan Cook
No, I will have to improvise, maybe I can get another kit of these for some money, and then I will use these parts.
1 October 2014, 14:52
Phil Marchese
Perhaps posting the parts from the instructions might elicit some suggestions or substitues.

Looks pretty damn good, considering this kit should be used as firewood.

I bet this would burn good. 🙂

Propulsion shafts are easy to replace with brass rod. Or, you can turn it into a waterline model.

It's done. I will upload some pictures when the varnish ahs dried.

It's done. But I don't like the windows of the bridge, does anybody has an Idea how I can make it look better?

Uploaded more pictures.

Hi Duncan, good job in your Spruance.
About your question, there are different ways. You can cut out the windows and add PE ladders. They could be in 1/350, but that depends on the size of the window. Another way, cut out the windows and add vertical stringers according to the number of windows. Than seal it with crystal clear or close it with a piece of styrene. That depends if you'd like to have them clear or later painted!
For example check photo no. 93 – 97:
