Hi Christian,
I´m totally impressed by the surface details of Trumpeters Type 23s. Just be careful when gluing the maindeck into the hull. There is some torsion in the hull due to the small thickness of its walls. I will be waiting to see your progress with your project.
How do you plan to display it?

Hi Mates, thanx for looking at it. I will post some photos as soon as possible. Hull, maindeck and sonar dome are glued, the fit is quite nice and Sven, no problems with any torsion on my kit! Some filler and sanding at the seam line between the sonar dome and the hull was necessary, done it anyway. I also shaped a seascape out of a 20mm thick foam board. The surface was shaped with a sharp modeling knife and grinded with a 45° contact brush. Cheers, Christian

There is the same procedure as with my Z30. The foam board was covered with papier-mâché and now I have to wait until it is dry. Cheers, Christian

Hi Christian. And again an interesting project.
I´ve ordered the WEM Etched Part Set and the Mk.8 Mod.1 4.5" gun mount from WEM for my HMS Montrose. But I have been told that the Etched parts are not available at the moment. I wonder if I will receive them one day?. Are You going to use any etched parts?
Anyway, I´ll follow your work.

Hi Gerald and Jens, thanks for looking at it! @Jens, I got the same answer from John Snyder that their PE set designed for the Trumpeter kit isn't available. But I don't know if WEM had cancelled it already? I have ordered the PER set which is designed for the WEM kit but didn't get it until now. So we both have to wait🙁

Hmpft, these are bad news, because I don't know if there are any other PE Sets for that class available. Looks like we've got to take the "Graf Spee"-way: Scratch as scratch can....😉

I'm interested in the way you do the seascape, I hope to pick up some tips!

@Jens, PE Set WEM35108 is the one for WEMs Typ23. The set should fit more or less!
@Martien, Barry, thanks for your kind comments. About the seascape, once the surface is dry the whole Styrofoam board start warping like a banana. It seems to me I dried it to fast putting it next to the oven. The thick layer in some areas could also be a problem. An easy method to straighten the board ? break the back of the surface. You have to take care not to break the board but only papier-mâché! It worked quite well, now I still wait until it is completely dry and then I repair the broken surface with a thin layer papier-mâché. Cheers, Christian

Christian - maybe you could PVA glue the Styrofoam board to a piece of 9mm thick MDF board, with some weights on it while it sets.

Yep I thought about to do this, but I believe the Styrofoam warped because of drying to fast. Cheers, Christian
