Thanks for the nice comments Karl & Mathieu. I need to point out that this is not a scratchbuild project. I have now fixed the description in Scalemate.

I do plan to had a few wires for the wheels brakes line but the kit is well detail has it is.

Thank you Shar.

I have applied the Alclad II Black Base Saturday by the end of the afternoon. It took more than 24h to cure. I notice that my finger were leaving fingerprint while I was polishing it yesterdays afternoon. As of Monday morning, it feels like it's fully cured.

Once cure & polish it looks like it going to be a nice surface to metalize, but it's a lot more work than I expected.

Interesting. How many total hours do you think the black base coat needs before applying the metal coat?

I would say around 36 hours in my vase. Maybe I applied, too generous of a coat.

Thanks Nathan. The first test with the metallizer looks promising. I still have a to finish polishing the plane surfaces (I had to re-apply some black base) and I'll be ready for the aluminum coating 🙂.

Hi Guillaume! I am not an expert on Mustangs but have in mind that the longitudinal tanks were made from paper. So painting them in NMF might not be the way they looked on the real thing.

Cheers and keep up the good work

Thanks for the info Michael. I would have never tought...

Looking a some picture a lots seems to have a layer of metallic looking material. I think I'll spray them with my Matte Aluminum paint for their final colors. They should look like the one in the museum in the link below.

"...tanks were given two coats of cellulose dope followed by a two coats of aluminum paint."

Haha, the paper tanks have metallic paint and the metal ones appear dull grey.
Your strategy sounds sound.

I'm done with the metallic paint on the fuselage. Moving to painting the camouflage scheme.

Well, this project is as turn a turn toward bad luck. Removing the masking on the the metallic surface, I realized it had left a lot of mark on the panel. I had to resand and repaint some panel.

And the I realized that early this week, I had past an evening apply the propeller decal on the wrong side. I think I finish as his regarding the propeller and will fix later.

Thanks David.

This project has been filled with challenges and surprises all along it takes me back to when I started modeling again 2 year ago. Now I' m get close to where I wanted to be with this paint job.

Thank you Nathan & Michael. I've finished the project this morning. The rear view mirror (not show in the photoshoot) was the final part.

It was exiting to get out of my comfort zone by trying the Alclad paint.

I'm just a bit sad I apply the propeller decal on the wrong side of the blade. If anyone has some spares, I have a lot of decals I'm willing to trade for.
