I-16 Progress

Album image #1
All the interior and the small parts have been painted. Lets go on to the assembly.

Album image #2
The two fuselage halves does not fit together so I had to make a brace in between them to keep the round shape, and to make it fit the wing part.

Album image #3
Even after the brace, I had to add alot of clamps to keep the shape while the glue is setting. You can hardly see the plane 😉.

Album image #4
Alot of sanding going on 😉

Album image #5
I had to use alot of super glue to bridge the gap and make the transition smooth between the fuselage and the wing part as it did not fit at all.

Pre-shading finished!

Album image #7
I did the pre-shading on a black base this time.

Album image #8
Basic camoflage is finished!

Album image #9
I really like this paint scheme! 🙂

After a layer of gloss, it's time for decals.

Album image #13
Not alot of decals for this paint option.

Album image #14
Everything is finished and waiting for the first weathering stage with oil washes.

Album image #15
It is finished!

The decals were a little thick, so you can see the edge of them. In hindsight, I should have sanded them down a bit.

Engine ventilation closed.

And open.

Album image #27
I drilled out the center of the propeller hub and the wing mounted guns. I thought the recess, with matt black paint would be enough for the fuselage mounted guns, but unfortunately, it wasn't.

Album image #28
Themounting of the propeller in the kit wasn't good enough, too much gap, so it is tilting a bit to the side. I tried to fix it, but didn't succeed, unfortunately..

Album image #29
I also drilled out the exhaust pipes.

The wheel retracting wires were made by a bit of thin plastic rod painted in steel color.

I've started the build of the little I-16 fighter. This is not the best of kits and it has a bunch of fit problems, but I hope the end result will be a nice little plane.

You are very welcome mates! 🙂
Another update, I have done all of the assembly and all the basic painting and decals, so next stage is weathering.

Thanks James! 🙂
The little bird is finished. Although the build took alot longer than I had anticipated, due to fit issues, I really like the end result. The Polikarpov I-16 is a really cool plane.
