1963 Studebaker Avanti
Sorry, Peter, but it's another car. But the 1963 Studebaker Avanti is one of the more unsual looking models I've run across so it was worth building.
Taking a bit of work to ensure that the wheels sit flush to the ground.
This is the toughest undercarriage I've had to assemble. Is the engineering that poor or have I just been spoiled by simple NASCAR kits?
Took awhile to get back to business, but now the interior is largely built and the first coat of Titan Gold has been applied to the body. One of the doors got a bit of thinner on it and has to be repainted.
A final coat makes a big difference. Just need to lacquer this to keep it from scratching.
A couple coats of lacquer clear coat before painting the trim. Always dread putting in the windows. Doors don't fit perfectly but are hinged for opening and closing.
A view through the passenger window. I really enjoy painting interiors.... they're my "zen".
Of course, when you take the photos you see the imperfections - the slip on the rear side window and the driver's seat slid back off the brace. The seat is an easy fix - the window not so much.
I find a lot of cars kits have trouble with the engine compartment. The radiator simply wouldn't fit, so the hood will remain closed. There's a little bit of lift to the front end and the hood here as well.
Not perfect, but I took too long on this kit as it is. I model mostly for myself, so I'm okay with the imperfections. I learn from them and try to do better next kit rather than get bogged down trying to fix every detail.

Going to consider this one finished. There are some things I'd do better next time, but I'll take those lessons forward to my next build.

Thanks, Robert. Its unique look caught my eye when I picked it up. It's got a bit too much play in the front end but overall displays pretty well as long as you don't look under the hood.

I found that to be the trend with most AMT kits, They make all the good cars and trucks, but the quality is shotty at best in most kits !

I like it! I have this kit in the shelf too and when I see your result, I'm thinking annuity to build it in the near future. I laid it back often. It is a interesting car. It looks so different from other cars of the mid 60s.
I like your model kit as it is. Nice color, a good interior. That is totally ok. I don't mind the imperfections you mentioned. Some of my kits aren't "perfect" at all. There is often this little tiny thing, what went wrong or not perfect. But I see it like you: as far as I can live with it, who cares?

Thanks, Christian. Be sure to let me know when you start your Avanti so I can follow the build and see the end results.

Very nice result Brad. 🙂. The interior looks great!. I see on your notes you LIKE doing interiors. I wish it were feasible for you to do mine for me. I am rarely fully satisfied with mine. (unless the come prepainted LOL). Bare metal foil is my ZEN.

I have a suggestion for improvement if I may. Take the time to carefully file the sprue nubs off of wheels and rims. Those little 'tangs" showing really give away the fact that it is a model kit.
