"Cripes a' Mighty 3rd"

Album image #1
I built a few other models along the way, but this took me most of 2017. A testament to the kit: I enjoyed every minute!

Not the easiest figure to assemble, but the John Rosengrant sculpt of Preddy is amazing. I do feel like it might be a millimeter or two out of scale, especially since I think Preddy was not a tall man.

Album image #3
Vallejo acrylic for nose; white invasion stripes Tamiya can primer; wings were Tamiya TS-17 Gloss Alum; rest of the metal was various Testor's Buffing Metalizer shades and some SpazStix Chrome. Tamiya Clear to seal. Vallejo and Tamiya pigments.

Album image #4
Gun bay detail. I sanded the wings a bit to simulate the reduced visibility of rivets and panels due to puttying.

Some scratchbuilt wiring and cables added in the wheel wells, using lead wire and aluminum rod.

This was fun to see. May, 2019 issue of Finescale Modeler. They printed pics of all the winners of a D-Day themed online photo contest.

Wow, thanks, all! This one did tick all the boxes for why I enjoy the hobby so much. This is also the first base I've done for a model and I do feel like it breathes a bit more life into it.

Hey John, great work on the kit, however I think there may be an error in the posing of your ailerons.

Thanks! And yeah, I built the ailerons as designed to be posable, but mostly they just flop down. 2018 has been all Star Wars and 40k models, but 2019 should include a large-scale Spitfire that might take me as long as the Mustang...

Just love it! The whole scene is looks absolute authentic to me.. The figures the lovely machine built machine and the improvised Field workshop the base the realistic weathering (not too much not the less) are interacting nearly perfect... Ok the Tamiya kit is thankful, but it does not build up itself.. You did a fantastic and impressive job here....
Congrats to this gem...

That's good news, you did a nice job on the kit as a whole, just thought I would point out the minor (and thankfully easily remedied) error.
