Amazing work! The model looks much more expensive than an old airfix one with a bit of work. Modeling done right!😉

Ok Mike, now it's time you do a "coming out" and tell all us the truth. I would be able also to make small masterpieces as yours departing from old kit if I had the MAGIC WAND that uses you. 😄 😄 😄

The overall impression is fantastic, especially in your small scale! The wooden finish support that 👍

Bloody Hell! When I saw this photo going by when scrolling, my immediate reaction was this is 1/48 for sure! But it isn't! I would be so glad to get this result in 1/48 scale.
I suppose you use Tamiya acrylic paint? Now my question is do you use their alcoholic thinner with it or their laquer thinner? It seems you can use both with their acrylic paint. I still use Humbrol and Revell enamel paint mainly, and I would like to try out Tamiya acrilics for once, so I'm trying to get info on them.
It is all more complicated then just using enamels it seems.
But again outstanding model of a very tiny plane in 1/72 scale!

I have kind of fallen in love with Tamiya paints, I still use Model Master Acrylics also. I thin my Tamiya paints with their X-20A thinner when I can get it, I have also thinned them with alacohol with success, and I thinned the silver X-11 I believe it is that I used on my Meteor with Laquer thinner.

Thanks for your comments guys, and to Slavo for resurrecting this older thread 🙂

@R VG I use Tamiya paints and Gunze Mr Color lacquers (when I can get them). Both are thinned with Gunze self-leveling thinner, but Tamiya's own-brand lacquer thinner also works great with Tamiya paints. It goes on smooth and dries quickly, but I'd recommend a primer first. Tamiya White Fine Surface Primer, decanted from the aerosol can and airbrushed, works really well.

Thanks everybody for all the valuable information on painting. I'm surely going to try out Tamiya on a future project and see what kind of results I can achieve with it. But I will need a gas mask because I'm asthmatic and strangely, the fumes of White Spirit don't effect me as much as other fumes do. But I will try it out in a well ventilated place.

Album info

Originally tooled in 1957(!), this kit is still being marketed by Airfix in their new red boxings. It's been totally superseded by several newer kits (notably Eduard). I upgraded this old model as part of SAMI's 'Circuits and Bumps' series a few years ago. It involved a lot of work, and it's still far from being accurate. I did revise the wing profile/cut-out, radiators, rudder, re-scribed it, added PE Spandaus, a complete cockpit interior, and home-made decals.
