The grill and bumper castings are really nice in this kit, but I sure wish they could a better way to attach the parts to the sprues. Like, why not the back of the parts instead of the sides of the bumpers? I had to sand, and foil over two prominent sprue attachment points... and it shows unfortunately. The only blemish on an otherwise beautiful part.

The pre chromed parts are always a pain in the ass. a have given up on trying to use them directly from the sprue. it's better to strip them and re chrome them even if it's a bit more work.

How do you re-chrome? I thought about that and actually stripped the windshield frame and painted it with Alclad

"Real Chrome" is a mix of acid bath and electroplating. nothing for the hobby user 🙂 i only use coca cola to strip my parts, it takes some time but it actually works very well. and then i just spray some alclad and i'm done. some people use bleach to strip the parts but i have never tried that myself.

I have used brake fluid to strip paint, it is toxic but won't eat plastic. I also used Simple Green (cleaning product) but brake fluid works better. I can't remember if I stripped chrome with those before, but coke sure seems safer that either of them! Isopropyl alcohol works to without damaging the plastic (never tried it with chrome parts tho) but then again, it ain´t good to inhale.

I use oven cleaner for removing chrome. Takes a couple of minutes. You can almost see the chrome disappear. For stripping paint I use a product called Easy-Lift-Off and an old toothbrush.
Never had much success with brake fluid. I have a piece of cowling from a Honda sprayed with a Tamiya TS color and it is lying in a container with brake fluid for almost 2 years (ok, I totally forgot the part) but the paint still doesn't come off.

Thanks for that info Emil... good stuff to share! I'm going to take your lead and go get some Easy-Lift-Off! Ovan cleaner I got, as well as an ovan that needs it! LOL!
