AMT International CO4070A
And here it is! This 4070 will be built up mostly OOB (I'm fine, I promise) aside from some photoetch from CTM and the usual added engine and chassis plumbing
Starting with the engine of course. Parts prep has been a breeze for this kit so far. This brand new tool is kicking out some very clean parts. The mating features are also very intelligent in their design, and poka-yoked for those of us who tend to get a bit too excited during the buildup phase
And now it's revealed why I selected this kit - a beautifully detailed Detroit 8v71
Engine now ready for paint, with some added plumbing
Frame is going together without any major drama
A massive amount of plumbing was added prior to paint
I'll also be adding some PE parts from CTM's detail set designed for this kit
Primer and paint is on! Went with my favorite here (Tamiya X18)
Second round of color
A few brief snags during assembly... more likely due to all of my additional plumbing, but I think the rails are just a little too far apart here. I'll have to replace the integrally molded braces...
My bench is really only clean between projects...
Chassis isn't quite done yet - air cleaner still needs work - but we're getting there
Cab floor and supporting structure will be painted as an assembly
The kit dash was nicely detailed, but I've removed the features in preparation to receive the printed photoetch
These are the last parts that need cleanup before moving on to painting
Sanding away the detail on the cab trim as well - this too will be replaced by photetch
Photoetch mesh added to the cabin air intakes
Photoetch texture added to the steps
Prepping the mirrors and aerials
Looks about the right length
Primer applied!
Still haven't really decided and a paint scheme... fortunately, AMT includes some nice reference material with the kit
First round of color... masking and additional colors to come soon
Really appreciate that this separate headliner design was carried over from the original kit

Well... gonna need a bit of cleanup...

Starting on the trailer hookups while all that is drying.
Interior parts completed. Photoetch instrument panel by CTM.
The last of the parts are almost ready
Now in the home stretch...
And that'll do it... just in time for this weekend's show!

Brandon HActually going to build this one up as showroom-new, along with the companion trucks that will follow... always more of a challenge, as one can hide a lot with weathering!

Brandon HPowertrain went together pretty easy, as expected. Next I'll start on the frame... hopefully among everything else I have going on at the moment, I can still have a rolling chassis done by the new year.

Where do you get all your wiring and plumbing info from? I'm trying to find some for a Fruehauf trailer, but either I'm using the wrong words or there isn't much out there.

Brandon HYes, some good stuff there. For the most part, my references come from my experience working around trucks with quite a bit of googling to fill in the gaps.

BozzerExcellent progress mate! Gives me fond memories of doing my Transtar Eagle 2. A very similar kit, but the plumbing is slightly different for the exhaust and air cleaner.

It's a very well designed kit - all new tooling and the parts come out clean and crisp. Honestly, you just need to shake the box up a few times and a finished truck will fall out.
That's probably why the paint still looks good too - bumps and scratches tend to happen when fiddling with ill fitting parts.

BozzerIstván, unfortunately you can't see much of the inside, but we know that it's there, and done in fine style. I guess that it's possible to open up the doors, but with the timescale that Brandon has, I believe that he's already excelled himself? In fact, he just keeps getting better, the lucky bugger! 😉
