F-16cg 1/72 flying pose

Album image #1
I got giffed this kit but it was already started. so I had to use a spare ejection seat for a mirage f1 set. This kit looks like decent fun and has a lot of options for weapons and other systems. I will probably use the wasp decals for the final model.

Modifications:
- Mirage f1 ejection seat due to missing pieces.
- Revell f-16D pilot figure.
- Retracted landing gear due to missing front landing gear leg.

Album image #2
The mirgae ejection seat doesn't fit to bad and I hope It also fits with the canopy closed. I won't glue it until I know for sure

Album image #3
I Used I light grey oil paint dry brush to highlight the black parts of the cockpit.

Album image #4
The white inner parts are weathered. This was done before I realised I needed to build it with gear up.

Album image #5
The engine is also white and has also been weathered. The fit of the fuselage and wings is decent but it needs some filling along the seem lines.

Album image #6
There are holes on both sides of the engine area that dont get covered up during constructions. I decided to fill these with styrine sheet and filler.

Album image #7
The AN/AAQ-33 Sniper pod is compelely empty inside and the glass piece is pretty clear. So I added some sensor detail inside.

Album image #8
I discoverd that more pieces where missing during the construction. So I changed my vision of this project. The forn landing gear is missing and I decided that I'm going to try building this I flying pose and make a senic basse for it Like I did with the bf-109e. So I needed a Pilot. I bought a revell f-16d and used the pilot figure form that kit. I used revell paint and clear varnish for the painting of the figure.

Album image #9
The weapons and fuel tanks are painted and weathered and the ladning gear covers can be glued in closed position without many problems even when the kit is not really designed for it.

Album image #10
I masked the canopy after I fitted the ejection seat and pilot. The gap between the canopy an back window is filled clear fix from Revell. I also primed the plane balck for a preshading effect.

Album image #11
I used insignia white for the preshading.

Album image #12
The first layer is sky grey. I applied this to the underside, pylons and the vertical stabiliser

Album image #13
Gunship grey is added to te top of the elevators and the fuselage. I applied this in thin coats to try and keep the preshaded effect. Very happy with the result till now.

Album image #14
I masked of the sides of the back fuselage to and more sky grey and I masked of the radome and used USN grey for mister hobby to get a different tint on the nose cone. I'm very happy with the result. I hope the preshading will show trough to the end after all the weathering layers.

Album image #15
Decals where great. I chose the stinger scheme because of the wasp decal.

Album image #16
Final work on the ordinace and weapons.

Album image #17
I used a dark brown wash from ammo on the whole plane.

Album image #18
I also used a bit of medium tan wash to make some dusty panel effects.

Album image #19
I made this choice for the stand. This does stop me form using the central fuel tank. but I will use the ECM pod instead.

Album image #20
The base is made from model and food boxes. I used toilet paper as terain paste and cat litter as stones.

Album image #21
I used filler on the sides and primed everything black.

Album image #22
Frist step is Preshading with tamiya buff. second I used sand yellow as a blend layer. 3rd layer is dark earth mixed with dark brown for the dark and low parts. I finished the ground work of with a africa sand dry brush.

Album image #23
The stand is added.

Album image #24
I really like the dynamic pose. although it's not realistic

Album image #25
This kit really has many options in the box and I decided to make some more weapons I had left from other kits. I hope to use these in future projects. I decided to go for a f-16cg ground strike loudout.

Album image #26
U used some Oil paint weathering for a dusty effect and some oil streaking. Also smoke effects on the gun and some air vents.

Album image #27
I used the streched sprue for the static dischargers.

Album image #28
I added some static grass on the base. I used a light green and dry tan grass.

Album image #29
I decided to blend the static grass with sand yellow paint and also used a flat varnish to unite the base.

Album image #30
Loadout is added I also painted the stand with gloss black.

Album image #31
The jet nossle is not my best work. I reused masking tape and some residue was left on the metal paint. I used some brown wash to blend it a bit.

Album image #32
The canopy mask did work fine even with the black decals around the frames. I really like the result.

Album image #33
Final result. Really happy what with the improvements I made especially with the paint finish and weathering. I Still need to improve some things in the future like removing the canopy seam line and the jet nossle paint finish. But the result I got with a kit that was already started and was missing some pieces is really encouraging. I hope you guys like it🙂

Thanks to you Vincent for the pedagogy and the technique around
this assembly of the F-16 and its diorama
It is one of the most realistic F-16 I have seen at this scale. Kudos to you 👏

I really like your model and display, very dynamic!

I feel like you should have spent the €5 to get an F-16 seat. It's so visible with that big canopy and the ACES II seat looks nothing like a MB mk4.

Thanks Clement And Juskifo. And indeed I maybe should have been more pacient and bought a new ejection seat. But I wasn't planning to take this much time and effort on this project at the start. But that changed along the way. I'm not going to try and remove the canopy and risk the finish I got. I still like the result I got and I now have the Revell f-16d to try and do It again. I hope the quality of that kit is close to this one.

I will probably use the wasp decals for the final model. I discoverd more missing pieces during the Build. The front landing gear is also lost. I dicided to try and make this kit in flying pose with a base like I did with the bf-109E build.
